Day to Day

Valentine’s Day Excitement

I know that the majority of the people out there see Valentine’s Day in one of two ways, either they see it as a holiday created by the greeting card companies and that is pathetic to celebrate it or they see it as the one day that they have to be over the top romantic for their significant other.  Don’t get me wrong I used to be on the cynical end of this spectrum myself but not anymore.  I also wouldn’t say that I see it the other way either, I believe you should be over the top romantic with the one you love year round.  All of that to be said I still like buying into the cheesiness.

This will be my third Valentine’s Day with Ian, well kind of.  Our first one was at a point in our relationship that we weren’t technically together but I think it would be safe to say by this point we both loved each other, I know for a fact I loved him.  We did get to see one another on that sweet Valentine’s Day though but only because it fell on a Sunday so we went to church together and grabbed coffee beforehand at what was probably our first “spot” Panera Bread.  Valentine’s Day 2011 we were a bit preoccupied with the news that we were expecting and I don’t honestly remember doing anything particularly special that day with one another.

That is why I decided to make our 3rd Valentine’s Day a big deal.  Yes, we have a 3.5 month old that will be celebrating with us but that doesn’t mean I can’t do sweet things for the love of my life.  I started the festivities last night after Ian went to sleep.  I am a weirdo that has “kid valentines” in a drawer that I buy when they go on sale, so when Ian woke up this morning he had about 5 little Valentines throughout our apartment.  We unfortunately weren’t able to spend the day together really so I decided to make a big dinner for him.  Bread with dipping oils, spinach-kale salad, home-made manicotti and our favorite sorbet for dessert.  Hope he likes it!

So where do you fall on the Valentine’s Day spectrum?  Do you love it?  Hate it?  Think it’s merely a greeting card ploy to get your money?

      1. Lauren,
In all seriousness I will have to say I don’t really fit into any of those camps (love, hate, ploy). I do feel that anytime that you can make someone’s day brighter or make them feel loved by simply giving them a card, small thoughtful gift or just a kind word or two makes it all worthwhile. Give my great-grandson a hug for me and Grandma!

        Luv ya,
        Grandpa

        1. I completely agree Grandpa! I will pass on the hug to Judah. I hope you had fun with Mom and Dad this weekend.
          Much Love,
          Lauren
